MarySue Heilemann, associate professor at the UCLA School of Nursing, has been selected as an official delegate to the 62nd session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62) being held at UN headquarters in New York, March 12 – 23, 2018. The Review theme for CSW62 focuses on women/girls' participation in and access to the media and the use of communications technologies for the advancement and empowerment of women and girls.
Heilemann has been invited to participate in two UN-parallel events. At the NGO CSW, she will speak on a panel titled “Women/Girls and Media: Power Storytelling, and #MeToo,” addressing the impact of media portrayals of nurses on the global nursing shortage and her own creation of a nurse character. At the “Women Illuminated” film festival, her transmedia project “Catalina: Confronting My Emotions” will be screened followed by a Q&A session when she will discuss her story-based transmedia intervention targeting Latinas to enhance mental health.
