Su Yong Jung
Bio

Dr. Su Yon Jung, an Associated Professor in the UCLA School of Nursing, is a cancer epidemiologist with expertise in study design and data quality assurance, statistically analytic approach, interpretation, and evaluation. During her graduate studies at Pittsburgh, Dr. Jung analyzed hospital-based cancer data to identify prognostic factors for survival. Dr. Jung completed a post doc in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Jung’s research at UCLA has focused on identifying cancer-related biomarkers associated with lifestyle factors as potential strategies for cancer prevention. She incorporates genomic approaches to evaluate the effect of gene-environment interactions on molecular pathways leading to cancer carcinogenesis/progression.

Areas of Scholarly Expertise and Interest

Research design, Multivariate modeling, Survival, Machine-learning approach for a big data, RF/CART, Mediation/Baron-Kenny approach, genomic/epigenetic statistics, gene-environment interaction.

Faculty Research and Clinical Expertise

Dr. Jung has a PhD degree from the Department of Epidemiology, University of Pittsburgh, and completed a post doc in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. During her graduate studies in Pittsburgh and later, she accumulated an array of research experiences using a hospital-based metastatic breast cancer and lung cancer cohort data to identify prognostic factors for survival. Her research interests include a focus on identifying cancer-related biomarkers associated with lifestyle factors as potential strategies for cancer prevention. She has incorporated genetic/epigenetic approaches to evaluate the effect of gene-environment interactions on the pathways of cancer-relevant biomarkers leading to cancer carcinogenesis/progression.
