Nursing alumna highlights the importance of advanced practice mentorship on the international stage

Dr. Hamida Khanmohammed, DNP, NP, RN, MSN, CNS, a graduate of the UCLA Joe C. Wen School of Nursing’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program, presented her work on nursing mentorship at the 2025 International Council for Nurses (ICN) Congress in Helsinki, Finland.
This year’s ICN Congress, “Nursing Power to Change the World,” brought together over 7,000 delegates from more than 140 countries around the world for a week of collaboration, innovation, and dialogue on the future of nursing.

Dr. Khanmohammed, who also graduated from UCLA Nursing’s MSN-APRN program and is currently the vice president of the UCLA DNP Council, had the opportunity to present her work focused on the importance of mentorship for advanced practice providers.
As a nurse practitioner at LA General Medical Center, it’s a topic that remains close to her heart but is also one of growing importance as healthcare delivery continues to evolve, along with the role nurse practitioners play around the world. Her work emphasizes the value of structured mentorship in supporting advanced practice nurses, fostering professional growth, and enhancing patient care outcomes.
“Being selected to participate in this prestigious global event is a great honor for me,” said Dr. Khanmohammed. “I hope my experience can encourage and inspire other DNP students and graduates to reach higher and take the knowledge we’ve gained at UCLA to make impact on nursing and the world.”
Her presence at the 2025 ICN Congress not only showcases the excellence of our alumni but also reinforces the global impact of nursing leadership cultivated at the UCLA Joe C. Wen School of Nursing.
