Overview

“In my role as a nurse-midwifery researcher, I have the chance to interact with women who are HIV-positive suffered from difficulties brought by the disease. The clinician background allows me the unique opportunity to design and implement a nursing intervention to create a comfortable environment to provide HIV-infected women with strong family support to enhance self-management.”

Dr. Chen’s research has addressed the unique needs of the growing number of Chinese women and children with HIV/AIDS in China and in the US. She has used both qualitative and quantitative strategies to explore the issues facing nurses caring for, and patients with, HIV/AIDS. Her current grants are focused on a family care intervention that creates a comfortable and safe environment for women who are HIV-positive. Dr. Chen is one of few nurse researchers who has conducted intervention research in China.
