HIV Prevention Program Lauded by HHS

Nursing school HIV-prevention program recognized by HHS

The HIV-prevention program "Be Proud! Be Responsible! Be Protective!" created for pregnant and parenting teens by the Center for Vulnerable Populations Research (CVPR) at the UCLA School of Nursing was selected by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Adolescent Health (OAH), as an evidence-based model for preventing adolescent pregnancy. Selection of the program was based on an extensive research evidence review conducted under the guidance of several federal agencies, including the CDC. Deborah Koniak-Griffin (shown at far left), CVPR Director, was the primary investigator of the federal grant in which the curriculum was evaluated, and Adey Nyamathi of the School of Nursing was a co-investigator.
