Admission Requirements and Application Procedure

Admission Requirements

Registered Nurse Applicants to the B.S. program must meet the UCLA and School of Nursing admission requirements. Applicants are requested to submit evidence of the following:

  1. current licensure as a registered nurse (R,.N.) and a minimum of one year of full-time experience as a registered nurse within the past 5 years.
  2. official transcripts from accredited nursing Associate Degree or Diploma program.
  3. official transcripts showing completion of required prerequisite coursework with a grade of C or better.
  4. Official transcripts showing successful completion of four required Excelsior College Examinations: Fundamentals of Nursing, Adult Nursing, Maternal and Child Nursing,-AD, and Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.   5. A Statement of Purpose that includes assessment of potential for advanced practice study and a clear statement of your goals upon completion of the program.
  6. A resume
  7. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for all transferable courses.
  8. Fulfillment of the University requirement for American History and Institutions. and three recommendations completed on the forms provided with the application.

A maximum of 105 quarter units transfer credit may be awarded for previous college coursework completed including 30 units that will be applied for completion of the Excelsior College Examinations.

Application Procedure– Deadline extended to March 1, 2009

Students are admitted for the Fall Quarter only. Two separate applications must be submitted-one for admission to the University and one for acceptance to the School of Nursing linked below. Both applications are filed during the fall prior to the year of entrance, usually by November 30th. Applicants may call the Student Affairs Office at (310) 825-7181 to find out whether the deadline has been extended.
