Thank you to all who attended the UCLA School of Nursing Distinguished Alumni Awards Luncheon on Saturday, April 30 at the UCLA Faculty Center. The event had near perfect attendance including the presence of many alumni, a large group from the class of 1966 who were celebrating their 50 year reunion, several faculty and emeriti faculty, students, and other supporters of the School.
The program commenced with welcome and comments from Linda Sarna (’69, MN ’76), Interim Dean, Professor, and Lulu Wolf-Hassenplug Endowed Chair in Nursing. Amy Drizhal, Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations, then awarded the Linda Burnes Bolton Emerging Leader Scholarship for excellence in nursing to MSN-FNP Candidate Gena Craemer. Gena went on to speak about her meaningful time at UCLA, her plans for the future, and her gratitude towards the School.
Dean Sarna made the presentation of the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Awards honoring three graduates, one from each of our academic programs, who have dedicated their life to the field of nursing since their time as students at UCLA: Evelyn Ruiz Calvillo, RN, PhD, Professor Emerita; Susan Speraw, PhD, RN; and Eleanor Saltzer Weinstein, PhD, RN, FAAN. Dr. Sarna presented the honorees with personalized awards followed by a champagne toast to celebrate their accomplishments. The event concluded with words from Lynn Doering (MN ’86, PhD ’94), Associate Dean and Professor.
With the help of our guests the School raised over $4,000 on the day of the event through the silent auction and personal donations. We would like to acknowledge the businesses who supplied items for the auction and the people who purchased items. Thank you again for your continued support to the UCLA School of Nursing and we hope to see you at our next Distinguished Alumni Awards in 2017!
